Sarod
Plucked chordophone with 17 strings (metal, plastic and gut strings). 6 of them end in the headstock, in a same number of wooden keys, while the remaining 11 penetrate into holes located at various points of the fingerboard and end in keys placed on the left side of the body. These 11 strings are sympathetic, i.e. they are not played by the user but are stimulated by the frequencies produced by the main strings. On the upper side, all of them rest on a small bone bridge that is nailed to the lid, and on the lower side they rest on the saddle. The top of the instrument is made of leather on the lower part of the body, and wooden on the upper part. The leather has 10 small sound holes, while the wooden part has a number of holes of a similar size. 3 metal and one plastic berdes are tied to the neck. The instrument has inlaid and applied decoration made of bone, shell and wood, with vegetal and geometric designs, some of which are coloured. At the top of the instrument, there is a decorative extension with a perforated vegetal design, and the back of the vessel is decorated with a vegetal design in relief. The keys have a sculpted head in the shape of a flower. One of them is missing, as is one of the strings.
